5052-H32 is commonly preferred for multiple bends, deeper forming and welded sheet work. 6061-T6 often suits higher-strength, machined features or extrusion interfaces. It is stronger but less bendable, and welding softens its heat-affected zone; do not use parent T6 strength directly for an as-welded design.

TYPICAL DATA FOR COMPARISON
Typical room-temperature values: 5052-H32 yield about 193 MPa and tensile about 228 MPa; 6061-T6 yield about 276 MPa and tensile about 310 MPa; both are about 2.68–2.70 g/cm³. Actual minima depend on thickness, product form and specification; design from certificates/standard tables, not web typicals.
FABRICATION DIFFERENCES
- Bending: 5052-H32 usually accepts tighter R; for 6061-T6 use larger R, bend transverse to grain where possible and test coupons, or assess forming in T4 followed by treatment. - Welding: both use common aluminum processes, but filler, crack sensitivity, distortion and as-welded strength require WPS/design control. - Anodizing: 6061 often gives more uniform decorative appearance; 5052 can be anodized, but confirm color/appearance with a sample. - Purchasing: identify sheet, coil or extrusion, temper, thickness tolerance and grain direction.
